This is the website for the Western Massachusetts Developers' Group. We meet up twice every month (every other Thursday). Our meetings are pretty casual, if you're involved in any kind of development and are in our area, stop by our next meeting and join our e-mail list, we also have a Facebook group. Both meetings will be held at Panera Bread in Hadley, MA from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. We usually gather towards the back, there tends to be more seating available back there.

We will be meeting up this Thursday at Panera Bread in Hadley. We tend to collect towards the back, there’s usually more space to sit. As usual, this meeting will be casual and pretty free-form; join us for some coffee, snacks and some friendly technical talk.

We’ll be meeting up in Greenfield this week on Thursday December 9th at Mesa Verde! Join us for food, drink and tech chatter. More information about the restaurant is available on their website.
They’re located on 10 Fiske Avenue in Greenfield. Find directions from wherever you happen to be with Google Maps.
They are self-serve and have some bigger tables, keep your eyes open for the rest of the group.

Meeting Tonight =============== We will be meeting this Thursday (10/21) at Panera Bread in Hadley. I'm sorry I didn't get the e-mail out for the last meeting, I completely flaked. I'm so embarrassed! Change in Schedule ================== After talking about scheduling on the list a bit, it sounds like having one primary meeting a month is the way to go. In addition to this one main meeting, we'll setup one other meeting every month or so in an exotic location like Packard's or the People's Pint. The primary meeting will occur on the last Thursday of every month. When there's a holiday near the same time we'll try to reschedule well in advance (at least two weeks). Proposed: Next Meeting 11/28 @ Barnes & Noble, Hadley ----------------------------------------------------- Thanksgiving is coming up fast so we'll be breaking this pattern right off-the-bat and making the next meeting on Thursday November 18. I'd like to try out Barnes and Noble, they have comfier chairs and I think it'd be easier to look everyone else in the eye. We can talk about this more on the list and at this weeks' meeting. I'll scout out the location this week, I'll also contact Barnes and Noble management and make sure this is okay. Proposed: Next 2nd-ary Meeting 12/2 @ The People's Pint, Greenfield ------------------------------------------------------------------- I think our first secondary meeting should be out at the People's Pint. The folks way out in the hill-towns are good sports to drive all the way out to Hadley. We can talk about this more on the list and at this week's meeting, but I think we should schedule this one for December 2. It's be really great if someone who lives out that way would volunteer to contact The People's Pint and make sure they can accommodate us. I'd also like everyone who's interested in attending this meeting to RSVP the list so that we can try to reserve enough seating. If this is going to be a big problem for anyone or if this all sounds completely crazy, please let me know. I don't want to leave anyone out or anything.

Attendance has been very, very light lately. Part of this has been because of summer vacations, part of it has been that we haven’t done anything exciting like a guest speaker or a presentation for a
while.
Do you think it’s time to move to a once-a-month meeting schedule? My thinking is that if we only meet once a month people will be move motivated to attend and we’ll get a bigger turn out. Having
more people to bounce ideas off of is more fun for everyone.
Should we move to one meeting a month? Post to the list and let me know, I’ll adjust the website accordingly.
Panera Bread isn’t the best venue for any sort of lengthy presentation. That said it might be fun to have a brief period at the beginning of the meeting where people get a chance to let the group know what they have been working on and to ask for feedback or even help from crowd.
There’s a tendency for people to kind of clump together as they arrive and that’s perfectly reasonable. I’m thinking maybe at 7:30 I’ll ask if anyone has anything they want to briefly present to the group, I’m thinking something like five minutes. It might stimulate some conversation and give everyone a chance to get involved.

Since we have had fewer people attending we might be able to squeeze ourselves into another venue. I’m not all that fond of the table and chair shuffling that we do every week in Panera.
Barnes and Noble has the comfy chair section, it might be nice to meet over there and try it out. I like that we’d all be able to face each other and they do have snacks and coffee available. If you think of another venue that might be fun, post to the list. I can contact the store and find out what is involved with getting on their event calendar.
